About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated and culturally connected Mentor/Caseworker to join our Deadly Youth Mentoring Program. This is an identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander position, working with young Aboriginal females aged 10–17 who are at risk of entering the Youth Justice system.
This role is more than a job, it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact by walking alongside young women on their journey of strength, identity and positive change. You’ll provide mentoring, cultural engagement, case management and practical support - helping participants stay connected to education, build leadership skills and be the best versions of themselves whilst accessing the services they need.
What You’ll Be Doing
Mentoring Aboriginal young females aged 10–17 in the South Eastern Sydney region.
Supporting school engagement and re-engagement strategies.
Coordinating cultural, recreational and leadership activities.
Organising and facilitating cultural and leadership camps.
Connecting young people with education, training, employment and health services.
Providing referrals and case management tailored to each participant’s needs.
Maintaining accurate case notes using a Client Management System.
Contributing to reporting and program evaluation.
Participating in team meetings, interagency forums and community events.
Building strong internal and external networks.
Other Ad-hoc duties as required.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Criteria:
Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (This is a designated position under Section 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977).
Strong connection with and understanding of the Aboriginal communities in South Eastern Sydney.
Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities and young people.
Previous experience in mentoring, youth work or case management.
Current Driver’s Licence.
Strong communication, interpersonal and networking skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Proficient computer and administrative skills.
Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
