About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and culturally aware Program Mentor to join our team supporting Aboriginal school students through the Liverpool Opportunity Hub Program. This role focuses on providing one-on-one mentoring, group workshops and practical support that improves student engagement, school attendance and career readiness.
This is an identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander position, under Section 9A of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver individualised, holistic mentoring for Aboriginal school students across participating schools.
Facilitate in-school workshops covering leadership, goal setting, Aboriginal culture, health and wellbeing.
Provide general support to all Aboriginal students in serviced schools.
Maintain strong relationships with participants, families, schools and community stakeholders.
Coordinate Breakfast Boot Camps to encourage physical activity and promote positive school attendance.
Run Homework Hubs to support students with assignments and build study skills.
Provide targeted mentoring to at-risk students to improve attendance and classroom engagement.
Support students in securing and maintaining school-based traineeships and work experience placements.
Develop and review individual career/candidate plans for all participants.
Coordinate university and TAFE visits and assist with industry exposure opportunities.
Key Performance Indicators
Deliver services across a minimum of 25 schools in the region.
Provide mentoring to at least 45% of eligible Aboriginal students.
Ensure fortnightly face-to-face mentoring for active participants.
100% of students in Years 9–12 must have personalised career plans, reviewed biannually.
Actively support weekly Homework Hubs and Breakfast Boot Camps.
Ensure 100% of school leavers have an exit plan at least six months prior to graduation.
Desirable Attributes
Strong understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture, particularly youth-related issues.
Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust and rapport with young people and stakeholders.
Relevant qualifications and/or experience in youth work, education, or community services.
Confident with MS Office and maintaining accurate reporting.
Highly organised with strong attention to detail and time management.
A proactive, energetic and collaborative team player.
Essential:
Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Valid Driver’s Licence
