The Opportunity

u&u Recruitment is partnering with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to recruit an experienced Senior Project Officer (AO6) to join the Fire Ant Surveillance Team (FAST) within the National Fire Ant Eradication Program. Based at Berrinba (preferred) or Brisbane, this role is focused on delivering responsive treatment services, mapping and data management, stakeholder engagement, and training initiatives that support community and government-led fire ant control.

Key responsibilities include:

• Oversee treatment referrals and prioritisation for high-risk fire ant reports;
• Use and enhance mapping systems and data tools to improve functionality and decision-making;
• Support training and education workshops for stakeholders on surveillance and reporting tools;
• Assist in formalising partnerships through MOUs and collaborative agreements; and
• Coordinate free training and treatment resources for schools in fire ant-affected areas.

Required Experience

This role is ideal for a strategic and collaborative project officer with experience in public sector programs, mapping tools, or environmental initiatives. A background in community engagement or technical education would also be advantageous.

We are seeking candidates with:

• Experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, or environmental management;
• Proficiency in Excel and data reporting tools (e.g. Power BI);
• Familiarity with GIS platforms (e.g. ArcGIS) is desirable;
• Strong communication and presentation skills; and
• A current C-class driver’s licence and the ability to work occasional weekends.
