Aurukun Shire Council (ASC) is an Indigenous community with a population of around 1400 people. Council provides a variety of services to the community that include provision of education, health, community, and welfare services; operation of airport, postal and bank agencies; development and maintenance of roads and housing. Funding is received through both State and Federal governments.
About the Role
Based in Aurukun and reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Stores Manager will be responsible for Council Stores efficient and timely procurement of goods to ensure that workshop and maintenance teams have the required stock on hand. You will liaise with suppliers and work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure a high level of customer service is provided across the organisation.
Key Accountabilities
Ensuring that quotes are obtained for all supplies, orders are placed and processed, and stock is checked on arrival ensuring correct stock is delivered
Arranging orders for materials, tools and equipment required for the workshop and maintenance crew;
Maintaining appropriate levels of stock and managing times and methods of delivery (barge, air freight, road);
Maintaining stock levels including fuel and any stockpiles through Council’s computerised system.
Receipt of delivery of goods, sign off of delivery documentation, storage of delivered materials; Distribution of goods to community organisations as required;
Maintenance of inventory quantities and monitoring of stock levels against inventory list;
Maintaining strict controls of goods entering and leaving the stores;
Ensure Councils Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures are followed and carried out
Ensure high quality customer service for both internal and external customers
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge
Essential
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in stores operations, including stock ordering and stocktake
Demonstrated experience with inventory management systems and a high level of data entry skills
Local government and/or regional work experience
Open unrestricted driver’s license and a forklift operators ticket
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to negotiate, conflict manage and diffuse volatile situations
Ability to manage a physically demanding role that includes manual lifting and moving of goods and stores by hand
Desirable
Tertiary qualification in one of the following: purchasing and supply, warehousing and logistics, procurement, or other relevant discipline
Chemical Handling and Awareness training
Selection Criteria
Demonstrated minimum of 2 years’ experience in stores operations, including stock ordering and stocktake;
Demonstrated experience with inventory management systems and a high level of data entry skills ;
Demonstrated experience in supervising, leading and mentoring staff
Demonstrated time management and organisational skills with ability to prioritise to meet rapidly changing work demands
Demonstrate a high level of commitment to interact positively in a remote Aboriginal community;

A salary of $95,000 plus superannuation
Locality allowance of between $4248.40 and $8496.80 per annum
Subsidised accommodation provided
5 weeks annual leave and 8 days Isolation Leave
2 return flights per year from Aurukun to Cairns in accordance with Council policy
Relocation expenses in accordance with Council policy
