About the Company
Our client is a leading global heavy mechanical engineering, services and contracting business operates throughout Australia in major capital cities and regional locations. This is a great opportunity to be part of a major infrastructure development on a 6 month to 9 month fixed term contract in Comma (small town in NSW) with an immediate start. A separate 2-year fixed term role will also be available as part of the broader program.
About the Project
Snowy 2.0 is the next generation of the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme, and construction of this major pumped-hydro
project is well underway. Once complete, the Scheme will provide 2000 megawatts of dispatchable, on-demand renewable power and
approximately 350,000 megawatt hours of large-scale energy storage to the Australian National Electricity Market.
Key Responsibilities
The Procurement Officer holds a critical position in the project's procurement and subcontracting team, ensuring strict adherence to established procedures, policies, and processes. Active participation during the tender and administration phases with the primary goal of optimizing financial and operational performance and identifying and minimizing associated risks.
- Source and analyze market information to support procurement planning and risk assessment
- Conduct sourcing activities in line with project timelines, policies, and procedures
- Negotiate and manage supply arrangements to ensure value-for-money outcomes
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to support delivery and resolve issues
- Analyze offers, negotiate with subcontractors, and prepare award recommendations within authority limits
- Liaise with offshore teams to ensure timely purchase orders and resolve invoice/payment issues
- Identify and mitigate procurement risks to minimize cost and project exposure
- Contribute to procurement plans, monitor supplier performance, and manage variations
About you
- At least 4 years of experience in sourcing / procurement
- Understanding best practice in procurement policy, processes and legislation and building knowledge of the business and supplier markets, given the rate of change in these areas
- Understanding of customer/client needs
- Proven negotiating and lateral thinking skills
- Financial management – demonstrable behavior in reducing costs and meeting budgets
- Contractual contract and claims awareness
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Computer proficient, Microsoft Office, SAP and Aconex an advantage
- Ability to work Monday to Friday in Cooma and then 1 week working from home, FIFO available from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and accommodation provided
