The Women Ranger Coordinator will play a pivotal role in advancing Barapa Barapa’s Country management efforts, as outlined in the Barapa Barapa Nation Statement. This position will be the key liaison for working closely with stakeholders such as the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and other relevant agencies. The role will focus on fostering strong partnerships, ensuring that Barapa Limited’s values are embedded in land use planning and management decisions, and supporting programs aimed at protecting and restoring Country, particularly through Fire, Water, and Land initiatives.

Additionally, the Ranger Coordinator will oversee the Women’s Ranger Team, playing a crucial part in the Barapa Limited Cultural Values Project. The position will evolve into a mix of program and management, as the team expands. The Coordinator will work closely with the CEO and Board to co-design and implement this program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support Barapa Barapa Traditional Owners, Barapa Barapa Country and Barapa Ltd on planning matters related to Country management.

Enhance DEECA’s understanding of Barapa Limited’s values, requirements, and usage, ensuring Barapa’s perspectives are integrated into state government and stakeholder planning.

Working with Aboriginal communities, with the ability to communicate and engage effectively.

Ability to self-manage and manage staff, with the ability to support recruitment for this project.

Provide support for community events and host country activities to promote this program.

Contributes to research that supports key strategies and goals of relevant agencies.

Develop a community-driven focus area for inclusion in the refresh of the Barapa Country Plan.

Collaborate with team members and consultants to document the cultural significance of key waterways and environments from Barapa Country.

Prepare reports and submissions to support related projects and events.

Participate in all relevant meetings and collaborative opportunities to ensure the success of the program.

Develop work plans and provide weekly written and verbal reports, as well as program progress reports.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Adhere to Barapa Limited’s Policies and Procedures.

Possess basic knowledge of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and Cultural Practice, eg, Cultural Burns.

Demonstrate a strong understanding of Aboriginal engagement.

Actively participate in staff meetings and country planning.

Engage in quarterly review and goal-setting meetings.

Attend all mandatory meetings, training sessions, and workshops required for the role.

Perform other duties as requested by Barapa Ltd.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including government agencies, and community members.

The ability to effectively advocate for Barapa Barapa’s values in influencing government policies and practices in land management.

A genuine commitment to capacity building and promoting this program to the Aboriginal and wider community.

Proven ability to show initiative, supervise others, collaborate effectively, prioritize tasks, and respond to direction.

Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple relationships and projects simultaneously.

Ability to work autonomously, managing day-to-day tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision.

DESIRABLE:

Proven planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to guide others in resolving moderately complex issues.

Knowledge of the regulatory framework in which Barapa Ltd operates.

Familiarity with Barapa Barapa people, their Country, culture, values, and aspirations.

Experience working with Aboriginal communities, key organisations, and stakeholder groups.

Ability to communicate and engage sensitively and effectively with Traditional Owner-led communities and organisations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

A valid Victorian Driver’s License is essential, as the role involves regional and state travel for work-related purposes.

Proficiency in using computers, telecommunications technology, and GPS mapping, reporting frameworks is preferred.

A Working with Children Certificate (can be obtained before employment).

Successful completion of reference checks is required.
