Baluk Arts is an Aboriginal owned and led community arts centre and gallery, the only one of its kind in the Southeast of the State. Based in Mount Eliza the gateway to the captivating Mornington Peninsula, we support artistic, career and audience development for our Aboriginal artist members from the Southeast and wider Australia. Artworks reflect stories and themes of identity in a contemporary cultural context.

Position Description
The Baluk Arts Gallery Coordinator (Part-Time) is a central role within a dynamic Aboriginal arts centre. The Gallery Coordinator is responsible for the planning and successful delivery of gallery operations, exhibitions and associated events. It requires a keen eye for attention to detail along with flare for exhibition styling and marketing.
The position operates in an ethical, transparent and professional business framework that reflects the values of the organisation. The Gallery Coordinator will utilise best-practice standards of operations as it relates to an Aboriginal Arts Centre. Your ability to work as part of a small team and autonomously when required, is an essential component of this position.
Statement of duties – Key Responsibilities:
• Art collection management including inventory, pricing, databases, artwork storage, handling and photography. (Experience with SAM software is preferrable, not essential).
• Provide strategic planning, advice, evaluation and reporting to ensure that Baluk Arts offers a relevant and engaging exhibitions program that meets the needs of target audiences and Baluk Arts stakeholders.
•Management of gallery Uphold a safe, clean and inspiring gallery space for members and visitors, understanding the opening, presentation, maintenance and general upkeep of the gallery is essential as the face of Baluk Arts.
Promoting the gallery across social media, direct marketing and networking, liaising with the team ensuring exhibitions fit with the overall Baluk Arts calendar of activity.
•Identify opportunities to integrate Baluk Arts exhibitions with public programs, digital and virtual experiences and community engagement.
•Oversee the development of an annual exhibitions program of events and a longer-term schedule of planned maintenance and permanent gallery development including preparing and managing budgets and contracts.
•Provide effective and efficient management of exhibition resources and maintain and promote EEO, cultural diversity, WH&S and ethical principles and practices.
•Develop and maintain professional networks and partnerships with external stakeholders including project partners, other cultural organisations, community groups and researchers.
•Building and maintaining relationships with our current Indigenous Member/Artists. Creating opportunities for them to develop as artists, advising re best practice (pricing, hanging artworks, storage etc).
Growing our Membership through researching new Indigenous artists
Maintain an understanding of and keep up-to-date with trends, local gallery activity, pricing and industry opportunities. You will be responsible for your own research.
•Carry out all other arts centre related tasks as required.
The Gallery Coordinator will report directly to the Baluk Arts Manager including monthly planning meetings.
Required Skills & Experience
· Proof of Tertiary qualification in art related field and/or equivalent industry experience.
· Previous experience working in an art gallery in an operational context.
· Knowledge and experience of collection management including databases, artwork storage and handling.
· Experience in exhibition coordination or project management in a gallery or cultural facility.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent arts marketing skills. Photoshop skills advantageous.
· Previous experience working with Aboriginal communities highly valued.

· Full Victorian Drivers Licence
· Complete a National Police Check
· Working with Children Check

The role is part-time. Three days a week at 8 hours between Tuesday and Friday as decided. Every third Saturday for 5 hours required (10am-3pm). Hourly rate $30-$40.00 pending experience.
