Venue Manager
Brisbane German Club
Posted 20 hours ago
Are you a dynamic and experienced hospitality leader with a passion for creating memorable experiences? Do you thrive in a vibrant, culturally rich environment where no two days are the same?
Yes you’ve probably heard all these buzzwords before and are rolling your eyes quite hard right now. But this is our beautiful Club in a nutshell. Some service periods will be for 20 pax, others will be for 1,000. Some days are tough, but overwhelmingly most will leave you buzzing. (Yes we are brutally honest and don't bother with the sugar coating; it's the German way!)
The iconic Brisbane German Club is seeking a dedicated Venue Manager to join our team as the second-in-charge to our Club Manager.
This is a key leadership role at one of Brisbane's most beloved institutions and Queensland’s oldest ethnic club.
For 143 years, the Brisbane German Club has been a hub of German culture, camaraderie, and exceptional hospitality.
We are home to the longest-running Oktoberfest in Australia (despite what many others try to claim), and also have the biggest range of draught German Bier available all year round in the country, with an array during Oktoberfest that we understand is not repeated anywhere in the world; not even in Munich.
As our Venue Manager, you will play a pivotal role in upholding this tradition while driving the daily operational success of our multifaceted venue. Your primary focus is that every patron leaves with a smile on their face and a strong desire to return as soon as possible.
About the Role:
Reporting directly to the Club Manager, you will be their right hand, assisting in all aspects of venue management and leading in their absence.
This is a hands-on position that requires a strategic mindset and an absolute commitment to excellence.
Your responsibilities will include:
Operational Excellence: Overseeing the smooth running of our bustling club, including beer hall, bar, members' lounge, gaming room, and beer garden. A standard seating layout of up to 500 pax total but capacity of up to 1,000 in event mode.
Team Leadership: Leading the recruiting, training, and motivation of our dedicated team of front-of-house staff to deliver outstanding service. And ensuring our back-of-house team have everything they need to perform at their best.
Financial Acumen: Assisting with managing labour costs, stock control, cash handling, and contributing to the financial health of the club.
Exceptional Guest Experiences: Ensuring every patron of the Brisbane German Club enjoys a welcoming and authentic community club experience.
Event Management: Collaborating on the planning and execution of our diverse calendar of events, including live music, trivia nights, festivals, and private functions.
Compliance and Safety: Upholding all responsible service of alcohol (RSA), food safety, work health and safety standards, and ensuring that our clubhouse remains a safe and inclusive space at all times.
Relief Duty Manager: You will occasionally be required to step in to fill the occasional Duty Manager shift to cover periods of absence, so experience here is essential.
What We're Looking For:
Proven experience in a senior hospitality management role (Venue Manager, Assistant Manager, Senior Duty Manager, or similar).
Strong leadership and team development skills.
A solid understanding of financial management principles in a hospitality setting.
Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
The ability to remain calm and methodical in a fast-paced environment.
The willingness to step in and provide firm and direct guidance where required.
A willingness to embrace the spirit of the club. And a genuine appreciation for German culture is highly desirable.
Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Service of Gaming (RSG) certificates at a minimum, and ability to complete further certification required (CLO, RMLV/approved manager).
What you’ll receive:
Salary paid weekly
Five weeks annual leave (with additional 17.5% loading)
Time in lieu for any additional days worked
Free onsite parking
Staff meals on shift
Free knock-off drink
50% venue discount
Your work week will generally be midday shifts from Wednesday to Sunday, with a shorter day on Sunday (as we only trade for lunch), however rostering flexibility is available with enough notice and planning.
Why Join the Brisbane German Club?
This is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to become part of a proud community and contribute to the legacy of a Brisbane icon. You will have the chance to work in a unique and vibrant atmosphere, become part of an extended family of team and members, and play a significant role in the future success of our club.
If you are a motivated and experienced hospitality professional ready for your next challenge, we want to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your suitability for the role, explaining how your experience and skills align with the above-mentioned responsibilities and requirements.
Immediate start is available; however we are willing to hold commencement for the right person.
Direct applicants only please.
