Our client is an award-winning leader in the manufacturing sector, boasting an impressive 50-year legacy as a dedicated manufacturer and supplier to industry, with a focus on heavy transport. Based in Bayswater, Victoria, the company provides a comprehensive suite of services from third-party logistics, global sourcing, precision machining, expert fabrication, to meticulous assembly.
Due to continued growth, the company is seeking an Engineering and Quality Manager to join the team and drive productivity improvements.
About You
The Engineering and Quality Manager is a critical senior leadership role, central to the company's overall performance. This position holds dual accountability for leading both the Production Engineering and Product Engineering teams, alongside overseeing the comprehensive Quality Management System.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you drive productivity improvements within the factory, ensure the successful introduction of new products, and maintain the highest quality standards across all products and processes.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will help shape the business's strategic direction, manage significant financial delegations, develop compelling business cases, and cultivate a high-performance culture across your teams.
This role demands a hands-on, financially astute leader with exceptional problem-solving abilities and a deep commitment to both technical excellence and customer satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities
Directly support the CEO in the leadership and strategic direction of the business.
Drive productivity improvements across factory operations.
Provide leadership and mentorship to the Production Engineering, Product Engineering, and Quality teams (4-6 professional staff).
Conduct performance reviews, set clear objectives, and foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Drive innovation in product design and manufacturing processes, leveraging new technologies and methodologies.
Lead continuous improvement using root cause analysis, problem-solving, data and lean principles.
Ensure all engineering designs and processes meet safety, regulatory, and quality requirements.
Oversee and continually improve the Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and other industry standards.
Maintain a hands-on approach, engaging directly with production and engineering teams to identify, analyse, and solve complex product, process, and quality problems.
Liaise directly with customers and enhance business reputation through strong technical communication.
Provide regular, strategic reports to the CEO and Management Team.
Actively promote and embed a strong safety culture throughout the business.
Key Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or similar).
10+ years in engineering and quality control within a manufacturing environment.
Minimum 3 to 5 years in a leadership role with proven ability to motivate, mentor and build high-performing teams.
Strategic and financial acumen, capable of developing business cases for new initiatives and investments.
Hands on, practical approach with willingness to engage directly with technical and operational challenges.
Unwavering commitment to building strong customer relationships at a technical level.
Experience managing new product development cycles from concept to launch.
Extensive experience in driving productivity and implementing lean manufacturing principles (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma Black Belt preferred).
Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent) and other relevant engineering tools.
Proactive and positive mindset.
Benefits
Salary of $120,000 to $140,000 + Super commensurate with experience
