About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a qualified Veterinary Nurse Unit Coordinator for our Surgery service. Supporting the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in providing support for clinical teaching and professional nursing assistance with clinical cases. In addition, the Nurse Unit Coordinator is involved with the management, delegation of responsibilities and coordination of nurses within the surgery service.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • coordinate surgical procedures, nursing staff and provide leadership within the service
  • nursing patients throughout their pre-operative and post-operative care
  • managerial administration, including but not limited to nurse roster and schedule management
  • support student learning, through positive engagement with students in training
  • provide overall high level of nursing care for animals in their respective service
  • undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities as required.

About you

  • a Veterinary Nursing Certificate IV (or equivalent) and advanced veterinary nursing experience in a veterinary specialist hospital environment
  • ability to communicate with academics, veterinary professionals, and veterinary students
  • a passion and drive to provide teaching opportunities to students and junior staff
  • ability to cope with caseloads in a busy working environment
  • relevant knowledge and commitment to provide excellent surgical care and handling to our patients
  • demonstrated experience with using technical and medical surgical equipment and training in anaesthesia, radiography, and drug dispensing
  • demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team
  • experience managing and leading a team
  • a willingness and ability to work rostered shifts, Monday to Friday.
