Role Overview

This role is critical in the planning and execution of construction projects, providing accurate cost estimates, managing project budgets, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The role requires a balance of technical expertise, analytical skills, and effective communication to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead. Develop project budgets that align with client requirements and expectations, while being afforded the opportunity to take your estimate from Concept to Construction and be an end-to-end solution for the business.

Project Analysis: Review project plans, engineering and specifications, determine the project scope and identify potential challenges. Conduct site visits and gather relevant data for precise cost estimation.

Vendor and Supplier Coordination: Request and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing. Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, negotiating favourable terms and agreements.

Risk Assessment: Identify project risks and incorporate contingency costs in estimates. Analyse market trends, material costs, and labor availability to anticipate potential cost changes.

Collaboration with Project Teams: Work closely with architects, engineers, and project teams to ensure estimates align with project objectives. Provide support during pre-construction and planning phases.

Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed bid proposals and ensure submission within specified deadlines. Maintain organised records of estimates, bids, and related documentation for future reference.

Cost Tracking and Adjustments: Monitor actual project costs against initial estimates and adjust forecasts as necessary. Provide insights and recommendations to optimise project budgets and improve cost-efficiency.

Compliance and Standards: Ensure all estimates comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and company standards. Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies to enhance estimation accuracy.

Software Utilisation: Use Builder Trend construction estimating software and tools to streamline the estimation process. Generate accurate reports and analyses using digital platforms.

Communication: Present estimates and proposals to the Management team, addressing questions and providing clarification. Maintain transparent communication to manage client expectations effectively.

Qualifications and Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.

Proficiency in reading and understanding construction plans and specifications.

Experience in estimating and quantity surveying.

Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and building codes.

Strong negotiation and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Proficiency in using estimating software (e.g., Builder Trend) and Microsoft Office suite.

Relevant certification or diploma in construction or a related field.
