Shape the Future of Environmental Health in the Kimberley!
The Coordinator Environmental Health Services plays a crucial role in driving strategic health outcomes across a geographically diverse region.
You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering impactful health programs while working closely with community partners and other service providers. Your goal will be to improve health outcomes, particularly in Aboriginal communities, by providing advice and assistance on environmental health matters, ensuring compliance with legislation, and meeting the obligations set by the WA Department of Health.
Your key responsibilities will include collaborating with Aboriginal communities and service agencies to address health and well-being issues, developing and delivering health education programs, overseeing housing-related health concerns, and managing the Dog Health and Breeding Control Programs. You will conduct compliance inspections, investigate health complaints, and monitor food and water standards to ensure adherence to regulations. Additionally, you will supervise operations, contribute to budget planning, source funding for programs, and maintain accurate records. Fostering a sense of teamwork, enhancing staff performance, ensuring workplace safety, and providing excellent customer service are also integral parts of this role. Please note that this position is based in Derby with a base salary range from $92,055 - $99,415 plus generous allowances (Subject to negotiation, up to $15,470) superannuation (12% & up-to 7% Council matching), and 5 weeks annual leave. What We Are Looking For (Essential Criteria): To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health or other qualifications acceptable to the Chief Health Officer for appointment as an Environmental Health Officer under the Public Health Act 2016.
- A minimum of two years' experience in a similar role, demonstrating excellent working knowledge and ability to interpret and apply relevant environmental health and work health and safety legislation.
- At least two years' experience in a leadership role, supervising teams and demonstrating the ability to lead and collaborate effectively.
- Demonstrated experience in the field of Environmental Health, with a minimum of two years.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, prioritising based on business objectives.
- A minimum of two years' experience overseeing an operational budget, with appropriate skills and knowledge in budget management and expenditure control.
- A minimum of two years' experience in grant procurement, grant management, and acquittal processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.
- Well-developed customer service and community liaison skills, along with strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Willingness to undertake further training.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a WA Working with Children Check (WWCC) throughout employment.
- A current "C" Class Manual Driver's License.
Highly Desirable Skills:
- Experience working in regional or remote Australian environments, particularly with awareness of Aboriginal environmental health issues.
- Basic knowledge of evidence collection and presentation in relation to legal proceedings.
- Ability to prepare and deliver interactive educational packages and presentations.
