About CASWA
The Council of Aboriginal Services Western Australia (CASWA) is dedicated to strengthening the Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) sector in WA by supporting self-determination, cultural authority, and sector development. CASWA works closely with ACCOs to ensure Aboriginal-led solutions drive systemic change, particularly in areas like justice, health, housing, and child protection.
About the role
CASWA is seeking a highly capable HR Advisor to join our small and passionate team. This standalone, generalist HR position plays a pivotal role in delivering end-to-end HR services across the full employee lifecycle.
Working independently and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the HR Advisor will be responsible for leading and managing all core human resource functions, including recruitment, onboarding, policy development, industrial and employee relations, performance management, compliance, and workplace health and safety.
The successful candidate will bring practical experience in a similar standalone HR generalist role and the confidence to establish and embed core HR systems and practices that support CASWA’s growth, culture, and strategic direction. This is an excellent opportunity for a values-aligned HR professional who thrives in a dynamic and evolving environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Oversee the transition of HR systems and responsibilities from a shared-service arrangement with AHCWA to an independent internal service, and ensure continuity of business operations.
Deliver expert HR advice and support to managers and employees across the employee lifecycle.
Lead end-to-end recruitment processes for all positions, including job design, advertising, shortlisting, interviewing and onboarding.
Review, develop, and implement HR and WHS policies and procedures tailored to a growing Aboriginal Community Controlled peak body.
Manage and support employee relations and performance matters, ensuring alignment with best practice and legislative compliance.
Coordinate workplace health and safety practices in line with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA).
Support CASWA’s leadership in workforce planning, employee engagement, and organisational development initiatives.
To excel in this role, you will have:
Tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management or a related field.
Proven experience in a generalist HR role, with demonstrated capacity to manage multiple HR functions independently.
Sound understanding of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) and the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (Cth), or similar modern awards.
Working knowledge of WHS legislation and requirements in WA.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and work collaboratively across a diverse workforce.
In addition to the above, ideally you will have:
Previous experience working with, or within, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal ways or working and commitment to self-determination.
What you'll get in return
While you will face diverse new challenges in the role, you will also enjoy an attractive remuneration package including a competitive base salary of $100,738.28 – $105,349.92 per annum pro rata plus superannuation. You'll also gain access to generous salary packaging options, which will greatly increase your take-home pay.
