Deliver spatial insight. Drive innovation. Support regional projects across Western Australia.
About Us
RFF is committed to positively impacting Western Australia’s regions through sustainable development and economic growth initiatives. We specialise in land assembly, regional development, infrastructure delivery, social programs, and supporting Aboriginal economic development. Our team works closely with clients and communities to deliver practical, place-based solutions.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a skilled and experienced GIS Developer / Analyst to take ownership of RFF’s GIS systems and support the delivery of infrastructure and regional development projects across WA. You’ll work closely with planners, project managers and operations staff to deliver high-quality mapping, manage spatial datasets, and streamline processes using spatial tools.
This is a rare opportunity to lead in-house GIS delivery while contributing to meaningful work that supports communities across the state.
Key Responsibilities
Produce high-quality maps and spatial deliverables for reports, proposals, and interactive use, applying best-practice data visualisation and cartography.
Conduct spatial analysis to support project delivery — including tenure assessments, constraints mapping, remote sensing/image interpretation, and geostatistical modelling.
Manage and update spatial datasets including tenure, environmental, planning, infrastructure, and demographic layers.
Support and enhance RFF’s custom online GIS system, including performance, data updates, and new feature development.
Automate GIS workflows and spatial data processing using tools such as Python or SQL.
Provide practical GIS advice to project teams, translating complex spatial insights into clear recommendations.
Provide technical GIS support and advice to project teams.
Maintain data quality, metadata, and version control.
Liaise with external developers for system support or integration tasks.
Stay current with developments in spatial technologies, open data sources (e.g., Landgate, DPLH), and industry trends.
Selection Criteria
Essential
5+ years of GIS experience, preferably in planning, infrastructure, or environmental sectors.
A bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, spatial science, or related.
Strong skills in ArcGIS Pro and QGIS, including data editing, analysis, and map production.
Experience managing spatial data from private, government and open sources (Landgate, DPLH, Geoscience Australia, etc.) under data use and management agreements.
Working knowledge of spatial databases (e.g., file geodatabases, shapefiles, spatial SQL).
Extensive experience using Esri products, particularly ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
Basic programming/scripting experience (e.g., Python, JavaScript, FME, SQL).
Experience managing or updating web GIS systems (especially if previously involved in in-house systems).
Understanding of land tenure, approvals, and planning frameworks in Western Australia.
Prior experience in a consulting or project-based environment.
What We Offer
Opportunity to take ownership of GIS delivery and innovation within the business.
Supportive, flexible, and collaborative work environment.
Career growth with scope to influence how spatial tools are integrated across the business.
Meaningful work on regional development and infrastructure projects across Western Australia.
How to Apply
Submit your resume along with a brief cover letter outlining your experience and why you're interested in joining RFF. We look forward to hearing from you.
