So, what’s the role?

We’re looking for a highly capable and purpose driven Manager Risk Embedment to join our newly created Risk Embedment team. This is a unique opportunity you won’t find in most other organisations: a chance to do the deep, meaningful work of ensuring risk management and resilience aren’t just frameworks on paper, but part of the way we operate every day.

You’ll be joining at a formative stage, with the chance to help shape the function, define the strategy, and build capability across Bank First. We don’t have all the answers and that’s why we’re looking for someone who thrives in ambiguity, asks the right questions, and is ready to roll up their sleeves.

You’ll have direct access to senior executives, working closely with the executives in a way you simply wouldn’t in larger institutions. If done well, this role should embed risk so successfully risk management is seamlessly integrated into every business decision and staff are clear on their risk management roles and responsibilities. That’s the goal.

In a typical day, you’ll get to:

  • Design and Deliver comprehensive training programs to Risk & Control Owners, empowering them to own and proactively manage their risk profiles.
  • Oversee and ensure the accuracy and integrity of risk profiles, aligned to Bank First’s Risk appetite.
  • Design and implement a business unit risk operating rhythms, providing key inputs to the Executive Risk & Compliance Committee.
  • Lead the development and testing of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs), ensuring compliance with APRA’s CPS 230 and internal policies.
  • Support BCP owners with training and guidance to develop andmaintain
  • Facilitate the annual review of critical operations and tolerance levels.
  • Oversee due diligence and monitoring of material service providers, ensuring appropriate oversight and contractual arrangements.
  • Collaborate with the Transformation team and other members of the Line 2 Risk team to design and embed a project risk management framework.
  • Provide assurance and oversight of key strategic projects, including consideration of delivered risks on operational risk profiles.
  • Conduct control testing in accordance with the Line 2 Risk Controls Assurance Plan.
  • Contribute to enterprise risk reporting and operational resilience strategies as part of the Risk team.
  • Design and embed a desired risk culture across Bank First, including consideration of risk culture behaviours, metrics and reporting

About you

  • Previous experience in operational risk, business continuity, or enterprise risk, ideally in a regulated financial institution with tertiary qualification in risk management, commerce, economics, or related field. Postgraduate qualifications in risk management are highly desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of APRA Prudential Standards, particularly CPS 230 and operational resilience and business continuity.
  • Deep understanding of operational risk, control testing, risk tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior stakeholders and influencing strategic outcomes.
  • Strategic thinker with a practical mindset and strong change leadership capabilities.
  • Highly developed emotional intelligence, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Previous experience designing and delivering operational risk and business continuity training will be highly regarded
