A leading organisation is seeking a Principal Enterprise Architect to play a pivotal role in shaping and governing the enterprise architecture landscape, supporting business transformation and long-term growth. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to influence technology investments at a strategic level, ensuring alignment with business objectives while driving cost-efficiency, architectural integrity, and future-readiness across both IT and OT domains.
What you'll do:
As Principal Enterprise Architect, you will be entrusted with shaping the entire enterprise architecture landscape to support ongoing business transformation. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with senior leaders to align technology investments with strategic priorities while ensuring that every decision is grounded in cost-efficiency and future readiness. You will take ownership of developing robust governance frameworks that set the standard for how solutions are designed and delivered across distributed teams.
- Develop and maintain an enterprise architecture that supports organisational objectives and technology strategy while translating business dependencies into actionable architectures.
- Lead architectural planning with a focus on cost optimisation by evaluating options based on capital versus operational expenditure impacts, especially in cloud platforms and operational technology convergence.
- Establish and enforce comprehensive architecture governance frameworks by chairing review boards and defining principles, standards, and guardrails across all domains including cloud infrastructure and data.
- Ensure project delivery teams adhere to approved architectural patterns by enforcing governance through solution design authorities within value streams.
- Embed cybersecurity, resilience, and regulatory compliance into all aspects of architecture design-particularly for business-critical IT/OT systems-to safeguard operations.
- Provide architectural leadership for digital transformation initiatives such as cloud migrations, advanced analytics deployments, IoT integrations, and automation projects.
- Partner with infrastructure and data teams to ensure scalable, secure, and cost-optimised architectures for cloud-native platforms like AWS or Azure.
- Facilitate architecture reviews and investment decisions by providing clear insights into business value, risk exposure, and cost implications for portfolio planning.
- Act as a trusted advisor to executives by bridging strategic intent with practical execution while building consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Mentor architects across multiple domains to uplift maturity levels within the practice while fostering a collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement.
What you bring:
To excel as Principal Enterprise Architect you will bring substantial experience gained from architecting solutions within complex organisations where both information technology and operational systems play critical roles. Your background should include significant exposure to regulated industries where compliance shapes every aspect of design-from initial concept through implementation..
- Extensive experience (7+ years) in enterprise architecture within complex environments such as utilities, energy or infrastructure sectors where asset intensity is high.
- Proven track record in solution architecture delivery coupled with technical leadership roles overseeing large-scale projects from inception through execution.
- Deep understanding of IT/OT integration challenges including hands-on experience navigating the convergence between operational technologies and information systems.
- Expertise in designing architectures for cloud-native platforms (AWS/Azure), modern data platforms, analytics solutions, and supporting digital transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to establish comprehensive governance frameworks-chairing review boards-and enforcing standards across multiple domains including security compliance.
- Strong financial acumen enabling you to assess architectural decisions based on capital expenditure (CapEx), operational expenditure (OpEx), risk management considerations, and long-term value creation.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills allowing you to translate complex technical concepts into accessible language for executive audiences while building consensus among diverse groups.
- Relevant certifications such as TOGAF for enterprise architecture or AWS Certified Solutions Architect for cloud specialisation; additional credentials in cyber security or risk management are highly regarded.
- Experience working within regulated industries (e.g., energy sector) where compliance requirements shape architectural decisions is highly desirable.
