The Department of Education and Training provides education to young Territorians from early years to adulthood to ensure Territorians of all ages are learning the skills and developing capabilities to contribute to the Territory’s economic and social future. Under the Territory’s emergency management arrangements, the department is also responsible for coordinating emergency shelters across the Territory.

The Role

As the Assistant Director Emergency Management and Security, you will be part of a dynamic team providing vital emergency planning and security advisory support to schools as well as emergency shelter coordination services.

You’ll be responsible for coordinating services delivered to schools and emergency shelters across the Barkly and Central regions as well as leading and supporting the development and implementation of the department’s strategic policy documents as well as high level advice on emergency and security management to senior executives.

About you

You’re a strategic thinker with strong emergency management planning and response expertise and a commitment to protecting schools and communities across the NT. To be successful in this role you’ll have:

High level knowledge of legislation, policy frameworks and current trends relating to emergency management

Knowledge and experience in emergency planning, preparation, response and recovery

Knowledge and experience in strategic planning, project management, program and policy development and evaluation

Experience with administrative policy, practice, procedures and governance

Well-developed knowledge of the security risks of physical workplaces, and current mitigation strategies
