The Opportunity:

The Senior Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager will be a driven, high-performing manager who is passionate about taking a hands-on approach in leading the design and development of an integrated communications strategy for GIICA. You will ensure our stakeholders, partners and communities are fully informed by providing accurate, timely, and well-presented information developed with tailored audiences in mind.

You will oversee the development and implementation of GIICA’s communication plans ensuring consistency and alignment with strategic priorities. You will strive to innovate and engage existing and new audiences to maximise reach and engagement.

As the Senior Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager, you will empower your team to achieve outstanding results, and your exceptional communication skills will enable collaboration across Games Delivery Partners, all levels of government, and other key infrastructure stakeholders to develop and manage comprehensive communication activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement GIICA’s broader Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and the supporting corporate communications plans;
  • Proactively protect and enhance GIICA’s corporate reputation through strategic communication, market insights, and issues management and lead timely, accurate, and professional responses to emerging risks, trends, and crises;
  • Guide a capable team while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement;
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key stakeholders, including Games Delivery Partners, government agencies, and community groups;
  • Develop evidence-based strategies that focus on brand vision, identity, and positioning ensuring coordination and consistency of messaging across multiple third parties; and
  • Deliver clear, concise, and persuasive communications to internal and external stakeholders. Monitor and report on communication effectiveness using data and feedback to drive improvements.

About You:

You will be a highly skilled Senior Communications and Corporate Affairs Leader with proven experience working within a complex project environment, ideally within infrastructure, construction, or government sectors.

You will have extensive experience in designing and implementing communications strategies and projects that align with organisational objectives and will thrive in a fast-paced with multiple competing priorities.

Additional Experience:

  • Proven experience in handling communication and challenging situations during crises both quickly and professionally;
  • Strong understanding of Queensland Government protocols, decision-making frameworks, and communication approval processes, with experience navigating inter-agency coordination and briefings;
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of building trust across diverse audiences and projects;
  • Understanding and knowledge of detailed project communications including engaging with a diverse network of stakeholders;
  • Ability to lead strategically and proactively manage communications issues and create opportunities in a complex environment;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing executive-level briefings and public-facing content;
  • Enjoyment in taking a hands-on role in a small and agile team; and
  • Proven track record of embracing change and leading with focus and optimism in an environment of complexity and ambiguity.

Additional information

  • A probationary period of six months will apply;
  • Employment is as a 5 year contract;
  • There are no mandatory conditions or qualifications for this position;
