About This Opportunity
The position of Senior Manager, Internal and Change Communication will lead a dedicated team that is responsible for developing and implementing whole-of-university staff and change communication plans.
The team is also responsible for developing and managing channels to engage with staff, as well as engaging with key internal stakeholders across the University.
This role provides a great opportunity for someone who is a thought starter; is comfortable with influencing communication approaches to drive the right outcome; and is looking to build a high-performing team.
The Internal Communication team sits within the Communication function, which is part of UQ's central Marketing and Communication (M&C) organisational unit. The Senior Manager is a member of the central M&C leadership team.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Develop and implement an internal communication strategy and rolling quarterly plans aligned to University priorities to guide consistent and coordinated engagement with staff.
- Develop and implement communication and engagement programs to support major organisational change initiatives and projects.
- Provide strategic advice to senior leaders on staff-related engagement on University priorities, change initiatives and projects requiring behavioural change.
- Facilitate the development of leaders' communication skills and usage of communication resources
- Develop internal and change communication materials, content and assets including messaging, scripts, emails, presentations, talking points and briefing documents.
- Manage staff engagement channels (including staff intranet), seeking to increase engagement and evolve channels.
- Work collaboratively with other teams - including Human Resources; Information Technology Services; Finance; Health, Safety and Wellness; and Property and Facilities - to develop and execute staff communication plans for key initiatives.
- Continue to improve internal communication governance framework and processes, achieving efficiencies and improving productivity.
- Lead and coach an internal and change communication team to ensure delivery of relevant, impactful and timely staff engagement and communication.
- Work collaboratively across the University with other marketing and communication staff to ensure consistency of internal messaging and streamline related communication channels.

About You
- Qualifications and training equivalent to a postgraduate degree in a communication-related discipline (e.g., communication, corporate affairs, public relations), and a minimum of 10 years/significant experience as an internal communication practitioner, including successfully leading a small team.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing internal and change communication programs using proven methodologies and a range of contemporary channels and platforms.
- Proactive and strategic communicator, skilled at generating ideas and shaping impactful communication approaches.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships at all levels of an organisation, and to advise internal clients and stakeholders.
- Experience in managing a high-performing internal communication function.
- Experience in the tertiary education sector is desirable.
