About the Position:
The Senior Communication Officer will develop, manage and, with the assistance of the communication team, implement and evaluate communication campaigns and strategies and deliver a broad range of high-level communications tasks that support Council's communication objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Corporate Communications Manager, this varied role will draw on your broad communications and critical thinking skills to perform the following tasks with limited supervision:
- Plan, develop and manage proactive media and communications strategies to promote Council and its facilities to the community and other key stakeholders.
- Respond to media enquiries, prepare media releases and statements, speeches, and other editorial correspondence to promote community awareness of Council decisions, actions and works programs and to disseminate the information appropriately.
- Develop and nurture relationships with media outlets to ensure Council initiatives, activities, events, and programs are accurately and positively promoted.
- Deliver proactive media support to Councillors, the Chief Executive Officer, and Council staff.
- Develop and manage the implementation of communication campaigns that give effect to Council's communications strategy.
- Produce, collate, and edit content for community newsletters and corporate publications.
- Assist with monitoring online media, including social media.
- Manage promotion campaigns, arrange interviews, and provide information on Council activities.
- Source ideas for media releases and newsletters, as well as track, monitor, and report on media issues relevant to Council decisions and services.
- Assist with identifying and maintaining up-to-date information on Council's website.
- Photograph Council events, announcements and other activities.
- Assign and monitor tasks to junior comms staff to ensure successful implementation of campaigns.
- Assist junior staff with proofing and improving their written communications as needed, including providing communications approvals and liaising with senior management as required

Qualifications and Licences:
To be successful you will need to demonstrate that you meet the below mandatory requirements for the role:
- Current C (Car) Class Driver Licence
- Tertiary qualifications (or significant progress towards) Communication, Marketing, Journalism, or relevant experience in the field
Position Details:

- Maranoa Regional Council Certified Agreement 2023 - Stream A- Level 6
