The Team:

The Government Relations and Strategic Policy Unit (GRaSP) manages and progresses the Department of Health's strategic policy and government relations agenda by providing high level strategic support to the Minister for Health and Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, the Secretary, Health Board members and Departmental business units.

The GRaSP team is responsible for supporting the portfolio Ministers, Secretary and Departmental business units regarding the negotiation, management and reporting requirements associated with intergovernmental agreements. GRaSP also plays a lead role and works collaboratively with Departmental business units to manage the development of briefings and support for Ministerial Councils and related bodies.

GRaSP operates as a fast paced, collaborative and supportive team environment that offers exciting learning and development opportunities.

The Role:

  • Support the development of high-level, strategic advice regarding government relations and strategic policy issues for the portfolio Ministers, Secretary, Agency and other stakeholders.
  • Provide input into the monitoring and reporting on intergovernmental agreements.
  • Under general direction, develop, research and analyse submissions, applications and business cases relating to intergovernmental agreements.
  • Support the Agency’s role in intergovernmental forums, including providing support for the development, analysis and provision of strategic advice to support participants.
  • Support and perform Agency and/or GRaSP projects under general direction.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.
  • The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

You will need:

  • Experience in, or ability to quickly acquire, specific knowledge of health services government relations and policy environment.
  • Evidence of proficient interpersonal and written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex issues and experience in contributing to the development of complex written documents.
  • Evidence of proficient critical thinking, research and analytical skills, including the ability to gather relevant information, draw appropriate conclusions and make recommendations.

Details of appointment:

Fixed Term full time position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 3 July 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $98,255 to $103,069 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
