Established in 1981, SNAICC – National Voice for our Children is the national non-government peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. SNAICC’s vision is that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families are protected, our communities determine their own futures, and our cultural identity is valued. We work to amplify the voice of community and the sector for the fulfilment of the rights of our children.
SNAICC plays a key role in the following areas:
Research and policy development, with high-level leadership, policy and sector representation
Training and resource design, development and delivery including topics such as early childhood development, partnerships, family support, trauma, and cultural competency.
Support for sector development, membership, and networking.

SNAICC – National Voice for Our Children is growing quickly and its policy team is expanding to take on many exciting systemic advocacy and research projects that will improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
The Position:
The Senior Policy & Research Officer will provide high-level evidence informed policy analysis of issues relating to SNAICC’s objectives and the rights and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children. The incumbent will research and draft high-quality policy and research papers, briefings, reports, submissions, resources for services, fact sheets and media releases in line with SNAICC’s policy priorities and strategic opportunities.
We are looking for people who:
- have previous experience in policy, research and/or advocacy roles across any sector;
- are great analytical thinkers, who can connect the dots and build a strong evidence base for policy and advocacy initiatives;
- have a broad knowledge and understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families; and
- have strong writing skills, including developing reports, submissions and papers;
- are passionate about learning and continually developing their skills and experience.

- Undergraduate Degree and/or a minimum of 5 years policy, research or project experience.
- Working with Children Check
- Current police check (no older than three months)
- Current Driver’s License
