Established in 1981, SNAICC – National Voice for our Children is the national non-government peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. SNAICC’s vision is that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families are protected, our communities determine their own futures, and our cultural identity is valued. We work to amplify the voice of community and the sector for the fulfilment of the rights of our children.
SNAICC plays a key role in the following areas:
Research and policy development, with high-level leadership, policy and sector representation
Training and resource design, development and delivery including topics such as early childhood development, partnerships, family support, trauma, and cultural competency.
Support for sector development, membership, and networking.

The Position:
The Manager Closing the Gap, Policy and Partnership will ensure the efficient and effective secretariat support to the Early Childhood Policy Partnership (ECPP) and SNAICC’s engagement with the Coalition of Peaks and National Agreement on Closing the Gap. The ECPP has been established under the National Agreement on Closing (the National Agreement) as part of the Commonwealth Government’s commitment to a joined-up approach to policy development. The will include representatives from Commonwealth, states and territories and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives. SNAICC has received funding to establish a Secretariat team to support the ECPP. The incumbent will lead a team that provides high-level evidence informed policy analysis of issues relating to SNAICC’s objectives and the rights and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is passionate about the rights, needs and safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women, and children and is keen to make a difference at a national level
- Demonstrates capability to work effectively to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders to progress policy outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Has previous experience in management in policy development, social research and/or advocacy
- Has strong writing skills, including developing reports, submissions and papers, and has demonstrated capacity to research, analyse, understand and write concisely about complex social policy issues
- Has strong experience in project management including the ability to work collaboratively with project stakeholders, develop and implement project work plans and meet deadlines
- Is a great analytical thinker, and a leader who can connect the dots and build a strong evidence base for policy and advocacy.

- Relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive professional experience in a related field such as social policy, research, education, law.
- Working with Children Check
- Current police check (no older than three months)
