About the Role:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Retail Buyer to lead the procurement and stock selection function of our growing supermarket business. This role is vital in ensuring our shelves are filled with the diverse, high-quality products that our customers love, ranging from fresh Asian produce to frozen goods, specialty condiments, and unique homewares.

Reporting directly to the Director, the Retail Buyer will take responsibility for developing supplier relationships, managing product categories, forecasting inventory needs, and maintaining competitive pricing across all product lines.

You will need to perform the following duties:

Continuously analyse sales data and stock levels, and study trade publications, supplier information, and broader market trends to stay informed of changing market conditions.

Identify and procure a diverse range of food products, including fresh produce, packaged goods, beverages, and specialty items, ensuring diversity and quality to meet our customers' expectations.

Manage inventory levels efficiently to ensure optimal stock turnover and minimize waste, especially for perishable items.

Establish and maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers. Engage in negotiations with suppliers to secure favourable purchase terms, promotional collaborations, and reliable supply arrangements, ensuring a competitive edge in product offerings and pricing.

Design and implement effective pricing, marketing, promotional, and display strategies that align with market demand and consumer trends, driving sales and enhancing customer experience.

Work closely with management and customer teams on long-term strategic planning and sales promotions, ensuring cohesive efforts towards the supermarket's goals.

Establish working plans based on seasonal changes and budgetary constraints, ensuring a well-balanced and timely product assortment that meets consumer needs.

Stay ahead of consumer trends by accurately anticipating changes in consumer preferences, and determining the quantity, style, and quality of goods to be purchased to meet anticipated demand.

Ensure all products meet safety standards and regulations, including food safety, labelling, and import compliance.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

Certificate IV or higher qualification in marketing, business or a related field.

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a retail buying or procurement role, preferably in a grocery or supermarket setting.

Familiarity with Asian grocery products and a strong understanding of regional cuisines and consumer preferences.

Excellent negotiation, communication, and supplier management skills.

Proficiency in inventory management software and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work independently and make data-driven decisions in a fast-paced retail environment.

Language skills in Mandarin, Cantonese, or another Asian language are highly regarded.

Salary setting:

AUD 75,000 – AUD 85,000 plus guaranteed superannuation
