Walalakoo Aboriginal Corporation, based in Derby, is a prominent organization representing the Nyikina Mangala people of the Kimberley region in Western Australia. Our vision is to be a self-sufficient organisation that adopts the world's best practice in environmental and agricultural sustainability and provides social and material prosperity to Nyikina Mangala communities. We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Project Manager.
About the Role:
Position can be based in Derby or Broome, Kimberley.
The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in coordinating complex projects and ensuring smooth day-to-day office operations. You will work closely with the General Manager and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget. The Project Manager will be primarily working from our offices in Broome or Derby and will oversee administrative duties ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the office environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, execution, and completion of complex projects while considering social, legal, community and political aspects.
• Coordinate and allocate resources, including personnel, materials, and equipment, to meet project requirements.
• Manage relations with key project stakeholders, including Walalakoo members and Traditional Owners, industry, and government.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Nyikina and Mangala people and other Aboriginal people in the Kimberley region, working in a way that is respectful of cultural heritage and values.
• Develop project work plans and budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost-effective project execution.
• Manage external consultants, ensuring contractual obligations and standards are met.
• Exercise financial delegations and manage project budgets effectively.
• Provide regular project status reports to the General Manager and stakeholders.
About you
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects in a cross-cultural and remote environment, including the capacity to lead a team, set work priorities, work creatively under pressure, and meet deadlines.
• Possess an understanding of the issues facing Aboriginal people and knowledge of Native Title issues and processes.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with a track record of successfully navigating complex projects in an Aboriginal organization.
• In-depth knowledge of project management principles and methodologies.
• Computer skills and capacity to use new technology.
• Be prepared to travel in the course of work, including by air. Hold a current driver’s license.
• Satisfactory National Police Clearance (obtained within the last 6 months).
Qualifications & Experience:
• Tertiary qualification in a related field preferred (e.g., Political Science, Public Administration, Project Management).
• Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills demonstrated in an office environment.
• Minimum 3 years working in an Aboriginal organisation.
