The Role:
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing information and support to students, schools, families and other agencies using a Response to Intervention (RtI) framework, to enable students’ occupational performance and participation within a range of school and community settings, according to the Catholic Education Students with Disabilities Policy and Disability Standards for Education (2005).
Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Inclusion Support Services team, the Occupational Therapist will:
Operate within an RTI framework and the universal design for learning principles to provide consultative, collaborative and clinical support to schools in the areas of sensory processing, movement, handwriting, assistive technology, activities of daily living, and access to the school curriculum and physical setting;
Facilitate professional development activities related to Occupational Therapy to build the capability of school staff and Inclusion Support Services colleagues;
Support schools to provide inclusive classrooms and spaces (e.g., sensory/’engine rooms’, transition spaces), and relevant programs (e.g., sensory pathways, gross and fine motor programs) for all students and students with additional needs;
Undertake formal and informal Occupational Therapy assessment, produce high quality reports and maintain accurate records;
Support schools in the development of effective Educational Adjustment Plans (EAPs);
Assist to identify needs and appropriate referral pathways for students;
Liaise with schools, agencies and the wider community to promote inclusion and evidence-based interventions for students with Occupational Therapy needs;
