Are you a strategic and inspiring leader with a passion for purpose-driven marketing and communications?

Mission Australia is seeking a General Manager, Communications and Marketing to lead the charge in building our national brand, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and amplifying our social impact.

In this pivotal role, you'll shape and execute a bold communications and marketing strategy that supports our organisational goals, drives community connection, and positions Mission Australia as a leading voice in the sector. You'll lead a high-performing team, provide expert counsel to senior leaders, and champion clear, consistent messaging across all channels.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Build and maintain an effective and skilled team by establishing role clarity at direct report level, ensuring clear communication and that performance expectations, development and accountabilities are clearly set and reviewed regularly.
  • Develop and execute an integrated Marketing and Communications Strategy aligned with Mission Australia's vision, strategy, values and objectives.
  • Oversee brand positioning, ensuring a strong, consistent identity across all channels and stakeholder interactions.
  • Liaise closely with the other senior leaders in Strategy and Engagement to support integrated campaigns and content strategies.
  • Provide strategic counsel for the Executive team and board on marketing, media and communications issues.
  • Develop and execute public awareness and advocacy campaigns and messaging to influence policy and public perception.
  • A Digital & Content Strategy is developed and delivered to support key stakeholder groups, liaising closely with other Strategy and Engagement senior leaders.
  • Oversee digital marketing, website management, and social media strategy to drive engagement and awareness.
  • Ensure high-quality content creation, including storytelling that reflects Mission Australia's impact.
  • Utilise analytics and insights to optimise digital performance and engagement.

Requirements for success

  • 10+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or related fields, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of leading teams, managing large-scale projects, and working in cross-functional environments.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit/Government space desirable.
  • Strong background in strategic communications, budget management, and executing long-term marketing and communications strategies.
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing, including social media, content marketing, SEO and SEM, data analytics, and emerging digital technologies.
  • Ability to use marketing data and analytics tools to measure campaign performance, track KPIs, and optimise strategies.
  • Knowledge of media relations and Australia's media landscape, media training, strong news sense, clear, concise and compelling key message development, media release and opinion writing, crisis and incident communications management.
  • Familiarity with marketing automation tools, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, email marketing platforms, and Content Management Systems (CMS).

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
