About the role

Australian Winch and Haulage Co Pty Ltd is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in our Smithfield, NSW office. This full-time position will play a crucial role in the design, development and maintenance of our industry-leading material handling equipment and solutions.

What you'll be doing

Mechanical Engineer/Plant Engineer

- Generate 3D Models of Mechanical & Structural Equipment.

- Utilizing specific software to create models of the product (AutoCAD Inventor Preferred)

- Inventor 3D Modelling & Manufacturing Drawings. (AutoCAD Inventor Preferred)

- Organizing previous engineering records, drawings and reporting new ones.

- Maintain existing engineering records and designs.

- Produce Detailed Workshop Drawings.

- Identifying potential problems with designs and making recommendations for changes.

- Liaise with Clients from Concept to Delivery.

- Scope requirements of Projects on Site and gather necessary information to generate Design Drawings.

- Create BOM’s and Liaise with Workshop Personnel to achieve Successful delivery of Projects.

- Compliance with Australian Design and Drafting Standards.

- Designing Drafting and Detailing Winches and Other Machineries.

- Coordinate with each department to ensure each project is completed on time.

- Identify and problem areas and recommend solutions for solving them.

- Communicate and collaborate with internal teams, such as production, warehouse, and quality control, to ensure seamless workflow and on-time deliveries.

- Contribute to the creation, implementation, and maintenance of appropriate processed, systems, and procedures to improve the organizations overall efficiency.

- Assist in production planning using Microsoft Projects to forecast workload and optimize resource allocation.

- Prepare ITPs (Inspection Test Plans) and SWMS (Safe Work Method Statements), and coordinate tasks as per ITP requirements

- Conduct quality control inspections, including paint and surface profile assessments, or coordinate third-party inspections as required by ITP.

- Assist the Production and Procurement Engineer in preparing the complete Bill of Quantity (BOQ) for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation components as per the Process and Instrumentation Diagram.

- Conduct regular project reviews to address production breakdowns, project issues, communication challenges, training needs, non-conforming products, and supplier reliability.

- Contribute to the creation, implementation, and maintenance of processes, systems, and procedures to support total quality control and organizational efficiency.

- Be a team player. Assist in any other duties and responsibilities from time to time as required.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

Minimum 5 years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer, preferably in the material handling or heavy equipment industry

Proficiency in CAD software, FEA analysis and project management tools

Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Passion for developing innovative and reliable mechanical solutions
