The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Safety and Assurance Manager to provide a critical role at Western Plains Correctional Centre.

Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum-security prison. It accommodates up to 1248 people, including people convicted of an offence and people placed on remand.
About the Role
As the Safety and Assurance Manager you will provide a high level of advice and support to executive and senior leaders to drive cultural change and improve safety performance outcomes while delivering against strategic and operational objectives of the department to meet its responsibilities under the Safer Prisons Strategy, CV's Mental Health and Wellbeing Plan and the departments Health Safety and Wellbeing Strategy 2021 - 2025, together with health and safety laws (Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017, Dangerous Goods Act 1985 and Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2014).
As an integral member of the leadership team and reporting directly to the General Manager, you will lead and implement local approaches to drive down occupational violence, including driving the implementation of action plans under the Safer Prisons Strategy, embed processes for staff engagement and undertake proactive assurance and compliance activities to support practice integrity. You will be responsible for championing the health and safety agenda for the location with an ability to provide advice about the safety risk in a complex environment.
Some of your duties will include:
- Provide leadership and direction toward the delivery of strategic safety and wellbeing initiatives working collaboratively with key partners to ensure a consistent departmental approach.
- Maintain and lead post implementation activities to embed A Safer Place to Work at maximum security prison locations.
- Undertake local incident reviews and investigations to support learning and continuous improvement including supporting the review and development of local operating procedures/policies that support outcomes from audits and assessments.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge, understanding and experience in the application of OHS legislation, compliance codes, codes of practice and regulations and the Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances legislation and regulations.
- Relevant significant industry experience in occupational health and safety management systems.
- Demonstrated experience in the identification of OHS risks and developing, implementing and evaluating preventative strategies.
Qualifications/requirements
- Suitably qualified person with a minimum of diploma in occupational/workplace health and safety.
- Demonstrated extensive experience is desirable.
- A full and current driver's license is required due to the need to work across different locations.
