The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Safety Coordinator to provide a critical role at Melbourne Assessment Prison.

About the Role
As the Safety Coordinator you will provide support to the Safety and Assurance Manager to partner with the operational teams by coordinating, supporting and monitoring Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) within Corrections including implementing actions related to A Safer Place to Work. The primary purpose of this role is to promote safety in a collaborative and informative manner. You will work alongside Corrections staff to educate them on all safety matters including occupational violence, slips trips and falls, manual handling and psychosocial hazards.
Some of your duties will include:
- Contributing to the delivery of operational initiatives by working collaboratively with the Safety and Assurance Manager and key partners to ensure a consistent departmental and Corrections approach to the management of health, safety and wellbeing.
- Coordinating day to day safety support and action directed at process, systems and services to support Corrections Victoria to deliver a safe and healthy workplace for staff and to meet its responsibilities under health and safety laws.
- Participating in local incident reviews and investigations to support learning and continuous improvement aligned to the Safer Prisons Strategy and ‘A Safer Place to Work' methodology.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Subject matter expertise in occupational health and safety management systems with demonstrated business partnering experience to meet operational demand.
- Proven experience managing a diverse stakeholder group to deliver consistent and quality safety service.
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience in the application of OHS legislation, codes of practice and regulations.
Qualifications/requirements
- The relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated extensive experience in safety are desirable.
- A full and current driver's license is required due to the need to work across different locations
