We are seeking a highly capable Internal Accounts Officer to join a growing and reputable business within the construction sector. This role plays a critical part in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the company, supporting project teams and leadership by ensuring the financial side of the business runs smoothly and accurately.
About the Role:
As the Internal Accounts Officer, you will be responsible for managing accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, job costing, payroll support, and maintaining compliance with industry obligations. You will work closely with internal teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure seamless financial operations across a variety of construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Processing supplier invoices, subcontractor payments, and aligning payments with job costings and contracts.
- Preparing and issuing client invoices based on project progress claims or agreed milestones.
- Monitoring accounts receivable and proactively following up on outstanding payments.
- Reconciling bank accounts, credit card statements, and petty cash accounts.
- Supporting payroll processing including timesheet management, superannuation, leave entitlements, and award interpretation.
- Maintaining accurate general ledger records and contributing to end-of-month reporting.
- Tracking and reporting on project-specific expenses to assist with budgeting and quoting.
- Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to manage payment schedules, contracts, and compliance documentation.
Key Skills & Attributes:
- Strong understanding of accounting and bookkeeping principles, ideally within the construction industry.
- High attention to detail with excellent data accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret supplier invoices, contracts, and construction costings.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, able to prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Discretion in handling confidential payroll and financial information.
- Essential: Prior hands-on experience using Jobpac (Viewpoint) software in a construction or project-based environment.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Accounting/Bookkeeping (preferred).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar accounts role, ideally within construction or trade-based businesses.
- Knowledge of compliance requirements relevant to the construction sector (superannuation, awards, subcontractor payments, TPAR, etc.)
