We are seeking an experienced barista or all-rounder to join our team from the beginning of July.

The most important thing is that you are a team-oriented person. We have a small happy team, a positive environment and a great routine. All of that is very important to us (and to our regular customers) so we recruit for culture first. That said, we do have some specific requirements for this role so please review the criteria to ensure you are suitable ahead of applying.

You'll be working with a ripper of an espresso set-up and your coffee will be complemented by fantastic fresh food and house baked sweets from a very capable team in the kitchen.

Cold drinks are also an important part of our beverage service and we have a great reputation for house-made iced teas where we focus on native Australian botanicals. We make all of our own gelatos and sorbets (20 flavours) here on site, so there's lots to play with for smoothies and shakes. We also produce our own line of instant coffee onsite as well as jams, chillis and other products which we retail onsite and via our webstore. In short, there's lots to play with.

Lynch's is a beautiful place to be. Right on the water and the best harbour views in the city, there's always a cool breeze blowing in off the harbour even on the hottest summer days. Lots of parking including all-day parking and free parking within a quick skate / scooter / stroll.

The role will be responsible for:

Taking care of our customers, we've been doing this for nearly 9 years now and we have a loyal base of regulars. We need somebody who will value them as highly as we do.

Ensuring fast and consistently great espresso service. During the week our office-workers need to be in and out.

Supporting management in designing and developing the beverage offering and specials at Lynch’s in a way that keeps our customers excited and works in terms of our suite of equipment, sequence of service and overall food identity;

Developing and improving on procedures and routines in order to deliver continuous improvement in our menu and catering concepts;

Ensuring that cleanliness and that food hygiene is maintained at the highest level at all times; and

contributing to the maintenance of all front-of-house equipment as required by the cleaning and planned maintenance schedules.

Criteria

We are seeking somebody who:

possesses drive, energy and creativity with a commitment to sustainability;

has as a minimum of 2years experience in roles of a similar nature;

has a demonstrated ability to contribute to a harmonious, respectful & professional environment;

has a knowledge of coffee flavour profiles and an understanding of the elements of extraction and brewing.

has great practical skills in terms of managing those elements of extraction and brewing and the ability to adjust grind, volumetrics and other variables to deliver consistently great coffee.

has excellent milk steaming and pouring skills as well as some latte art ability. We serve in grab-and-go / takeaway format only at the moment but the ability to teach some latte art in supporting the skills development of our junior baristas is necessary.

has great customer skills and an ability to create customer interactions that increase both the customer experience and the average docket value.

has a genuine team orientation, happy to help with some prep if its quiet or throw some toasties on the press if the kitchen is inundated;

can monitor and maintain excellent food standards and quality across all areas and during all stages of production and supply;

What we can offer

This is a casual position but the existing team is quite capable and cross-trained so we have some flexibility to meet the needs of the right candidate. We recruit with a long term focus so those needs will be an important part of our early discussions with you.

We are seeking to fill 20-38hrs per week, again this will largely be dependant on what the candidate is looking for. We have a number of business elements such as catering, an online store and off-site market operations that we have been developing for some time so we have the ability to move existing staff around and ensure we get a good fit for the right candidate. No splits, no nights and a really capable, supportive and happy team to work with.

Permanency is something we are open to for the right candidate after we have proven its a good fit for both of us. Most other core staff are currently employed on a full-time basis so if this interests you its always something we are happy to discuss.

Hours can be flexible although at least one day of weekend availability is required. Rostering will be discussed with preferred candidates based on your availability and preferences.

Casual rates offered for the role are $30-$35p/hr inclusive of loading on weekdays, dependent on your skill set and experience. Penalties are applied as per the award for weekend and public holiday shifts.
