The Role
As an integral part of the Governance team, the Governance Coordinator supports the Town in meeting its legislative and compliance obligations. This role is key in supporting the Manager Governance to lead the Governance team by ensuring the provision of high-quality governance services to employees, elected members and external stakeholders. Responsibilities include the coordination of Council and Committee meeting processes, various compliance activities, review and development of Council Policies and delegated authority and the development and implementation of induction and training programs for both elected members and employees.
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will embody the Town’s values of Friendly and Helpful, Teamwork, Creativity, Integrity, and Respect, and be able to demonstrate the following:
Experience leading staff to effectively achieve team and organisational goals.
Experience in the provision of advice and guidance to stakeholders on technical, legislative and governance matters.
Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail.
Proven initiative and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt, prioritise and deliver on short, medium and long-term priorities.
Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to engage, liaise and negotiate with staff at all levels and prepare clear and concise documents and reports.
Demonstrated experience in accurately interpreting and analysing legislation and ability to make sound recommendations for legal or policy review.
Advanced understanding of governance principles and regulatory compliance with applied knowledge of the Local Government Act 1995 (WA) and its subsidiary legislation or other relevant public sector related legislation.
Demonstrated knowledge of Council and Committee meeting processes and procedures.
