The Operations Supervisor plays a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day transport operations to ensure the efficient, safe, and cost-effective movement of goods. This position requires exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills to supervise staff, manage schedules, and coordinate with clients and stakeholders. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for maintaining high service levels, adhering to safety and compliance standards, and driving continuous operational improvements.
Operational Oversight
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily transport operations to ensure timely and accurate service delivery.
• Monitor fleet availability, routing, and scheduling to maximize resource utilization.
• Ensure that loading, dispatching, and delivery activities comply with company policies and client expectations.
Staff Management
• Lead, mentor, and supervise drivers, dispatchers, and operations staff.
• Manage shift schedules, assign duties, and monitor performance.
• Provide training and coaching to improve skills, efficiency, and compliance with operational procedures.
• Conduct performance reviews and manage conflict resolution.
Safety and Compliance
• Enforce health and safety protocols and ensure all staff adhere to relevant transport regulations.
• Conduct regular vehicle and safety checks to maintain compliance.
• Report incidents, investigate accidents, and implement corrective actions.
Client and Stakeholder Communication
• Act as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, feedback, and issues related to operations.
• Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., customer service, sales, and maintenance) to ensure seamless communication and service continuity.
Reporting and Documentation
• Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, maintenance schedules, and driver logs.
• Prepare operational reports (e.g., delivery performance, KPIs, cost analysis).
• Assist the Operations Manager in budgeting and forecasting activities.
Continuous Improvement
• Identify operational inefficiencies and implement improvements to processes and systems.
• Drive initiatives that enhance customer satisfaction and reduce costs.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
• On-time delivery performance.
• Fleet utilization and fuel efficiency.
• Safety compliance (accident-free days, audit results).
• Staff performance metrics (attendance, productivity, customer feedback).
• Operational cost control (e.g. overtime, fuel expenses, vehicle maintenance).
