The CB Alexander Foundation is seeking a farm operations manager for Numeralla Farm. Located in Tocal in the lower hunter valley, Numeralla Chicken Farm produces free-range eggs for Pace Farms.
We are looking for a hardworking and motivated individual to join our team in a full-time capacity as a Poultry Farm Manager. This position is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to challenge themselves and join a growing business while making a real impact.
Situated on the northern boundary of Tocal, the farm provides learning opportunities for students studying agriculture while gaining practical on-farm experience. Animal welfare is paramount to Numeralla, with the monitoring of bird health, welfare and condition being a key element of egg production.
About the Role
The position involves oversight, management, implementation and maintenance of commitments outlined in the businesses Free Range Egg Contract in place between Pace Farms and the CB Alexander Foundation.
Duties of the Numeralla Farm Manager position include, but are not limited to:
· Management and oversight of day-to-day operations so that farm performance targets are achieved:
o Compliance with the Pace Farm Management System as well as compliance with all appropriate Governmental Regulations including biosecurity and
o Manage and maintain appropriate records and information on operations and management decisions and provide weekly electronic reports
o Maintain optimal flock health at all times with the correct provision of feed, water, lighting, ventilation, temperature and hygiene requirements for optimal bird welfare and laying production
o Manage cost of efficient operations in accordance with assigned budget and work with the College Business Manager to develop accurate forecasts
o Assist research, budget and oversee implementation of farm capital improvements to optimise flock welfare and productivity
o Ensure Site Safety by implementing safety standards for staff, equipment and birds across the whole farm
o Provide quality training and education of Tocal students while on rotation to Numeralla
· Lead and manage staff performing farm operations
o Provide guidance and instruction to staff on tasks, responsibilities and expectations, including providing feedback on performance
o Coach, train and lead by example to ensure staff work safely and competently in all aspects of the farm's operations creating a positive culture and strong work ethic
o Communicate effectively with all personnel and key stakeholders including CBAF Board, management and Tocal College
o Ensure adequate labour is always on hand to meet day-to-day operational demands
Numeralla values everyone in the team as they all play a valuable part in the production process. As Farm Manager you will be required as necessary to carry out duties associated with day-to-day operations to cover any gaps arising in the staff roster.

About You
The successful candidate will meet the following essential criteria:
· 5 or more years’ experience working within the poultry industry (preferably in egg production or poultry breeding)
· A strong work ethic and passion for achieving quality animal welfare, safety, production and biosecurity outcomes
· A valid working with children’s check for paid work (or able to obtain prior to starting)
· Ability to work both autonomously and within a team
· A strong interest and willingness to teach and coach students learning about farming and agriculture
· Experience leading teams, engaging and motivating staff, and developing their capability and potential
· Excellent time management and organisational skills
Strong, effective language, literacy and numeracy skills and demonstrated competency using Microsoft Office 365 including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
As a farm operation, you must have demonstrated experience of safe operations of farm machinery. You must be willing and able to work outside of standard hours including working every second weekend under a rotating roster with the Assistant Farm Manager.
You will require your own reliable vehicle and a current driver’s license.
Additional desirable skills possessed by the successful candidate include valid certification and/or willingness to obtain upon commencement of employment in:
· chemical handling
· working at heights
· working in confined spaces
· forklift operation (license)
· work health and safety
