At the City of Melbourne, our Family Services team is dedicated to improving access to high-quality support for families with dependent children. We take a multidisciplinary, family-centred approach to strengthen family functioning and child wellbeing across our diverse community.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Nurse (EMCH) to join our Family Health program within the Community Wellbeing Branch. This vital role supports families across the municipality with children aged 0–6 years, particularly those experiencing parenting challenges or vulnerabilities.
About the Role
As an Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Nurse, you will:
Deliver high-quality, family-centred health care in collaboration with a team of nurses and family support professionals.
Support families experiencing parenting difficulties to build confidence, competence, and resilience.
Promote child health, safety, and wellbeing by addressing risk factors and improving overall family functioning.
Provide culturally responsive services to families from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds in line with Department of Education and Training standards.
Work closely with vulnerable families, including those with children or parents who have special needs or disabilities.
Conduct health and developmental assessments aligned with the Maternal and Child Health key age and stage framework.
Advocate for children and families by connecting them with appropriate services and supports.
Support immunisation initiatives through education and/or the delivery of vaccines during consultations and home visits.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation using The Child Development and Information System (CDIS)
Contribute to service evaluation, research, and continuous improvement to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Selection Criteria (What you will bring..)

In addition, you will bring….
Maternal and Child Health qualification, current practising certificate and appropriate experience in the field of Maternal and Child Health or Enhanced Maternal and Child health.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to the identification, assessment and intervention needs of high risk families, including knowledge of the needs of a low socio-economic and culturally and linguistically diverse community.
Specialised knowledge of women’s health, infant nutrition, child health, mental health child development and behaviour, crisis intervention and family violence.
The ability to develop parenting and health education programs.
Excellent skills in documentation of casework and accurate compilation of statistical data.
Well-developed interpersonal communication skills, including basic counselling skills; the capacity to relate effectively with families from a wide range of backgrounds within the community; and the ability to deal with crisis situations and negotiate to resolve problems.
