Primary objective
The Assistant Principal provides strategic, high-level pedagogical and educational leadership and management, and implement Departmental and school-based policies and programs to achieve optimal educational outcomes for students. The Assistant Principal is further responsible for maximising student outcomes through leadership and a strong understanding of the needs of students from diverse linguistic backgrounds, students with additional needs and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. The Assistant Principal will use their understanding of current, evidence-based research to ensure teaching, learning and classroom environments support the achievement of optimal educational outcomes across the curriculum.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support the Principal and leadership team in the provision of human, financial and physical resources, and administrative matters, in accordance with departmental policy, to meet the identified needs of the school community and to achieve educational outcomes and the goals of the Annual School Improvement Plan.
2. Provide leadership and support in the formulation, review and implementation of school policy, procedures and strategic plans to achieve educational outcomes in partnership with the school community.
3. Contribute to and supervise the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment plans in line with departmental policy to meet student needs - including the coaching and mentoring of teachers and delivery of whole school professional learning.
4. Maintain high standards of pastoral care, behaviour management and wellbeing support including communication with staff, students, parents/carers and other stakeholders about student wellbeing and academic progress and achievement.
5. Manage and coordinate school systems and resources to ensure education services are consistent with best practice and school and departmental policies. This includes timetabling, staffing, maintenance of student records and leadership in professional development.
6. Undertake teaching responsibilities and other duties as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in strategic leadership that has resulted in the development of strong strategic improvement agendas leading to improved student learning outcomes.
2. Demonstrated ability to utilise strong interpersonal skills to develop productive partnerships with the leadership team, students, staff, parents and the wider community.
3. Ability to model best teaching practice and be committed and capable of leading pedagogical change linked to recent research and aligned to the school’s Strategic Plan.
4. Proven ability to lead and implement whole school initiatives that support the school in delivering high quality education to students.
5. Experience in leading teams to plan and implement engaging curriculum and learning experiences including whole school events.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of evidenced based pedagogies: Reggio Emilia approaches, Age Appropriate Pedagogies, Science of Reading/Learning, Inquiry and 21st Century Learning.
