NAAJA (North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency) is seeking a Deputy Managing Criminal Lawyer to help lead our passionate team in Alice Springs. About the Role
- You’ll work closely with the Managing Criminal Lawyer to:
- Deliver high-quality representation in Local, Supreme, and bush courts
- Oversee operations including court listings, file allocation, and staff rostering
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior lawyers and support staff
- Maintain practice standards, manage risk, and ensure compliance
- Engage in strategic initiatives including law reform and community advocacy
- Represent NAAJA in stakeholder forums and interagency discussions
This role is ideal for a senior lawyer with strong advocacy skills, management experience, and a deep commitment to culturally safe practice.
Who We’re Looking For
✔ A criminal defence lawyer with 3–5+ years’ post-admission experience
✔ Leadership skills and a background supervising teams
✔ Deep respect for and understanding of Aboriginal communities and culture
✔ A willingness to travel, engage in bush courts, and go the extra mile for clients
✔ A current driver’s licence (manual/4WD preferred)
✔ Ochre card eligibility and clean criminal record
