Meticulous Maintenance Meets Passion for Art

Permanent Two Day a Week (0.4) Role

$38.78 per Hour Plus Superannuation

From the foothills to the coast, our city’s reach boasts one of the largest in South Australia.

Bringing together a diverse and vibrant mix of people and cultures, thriving and innovative businesses and millions of visitors every year, the City of Marion is like no other.

As one of the biggest metropolitan councils in South Australia with exceptional services, businesses and landscapes, we offer a high-quality environment to work, live and play.

Over 450 artworks comprised of murals, sculptures, and different sizes of installations can be found throughout the entirety of the City of Marion council further enhancing our environment.

We are now looking to permanently hire a two day a week meticulous, passionate, and caring maintenance officer who will be responsible for maintaining our public art assets for future generations.

In this position you will be mostly hands-on ensuring you achieve the maintenance schedule for our art works while also coordinating any work required by an artist or external contractor.

You will autonomously work within our Strategic Instructure Projects Business Unit and use one of our vans in your duties.

Responsibilities of this position includes the following.

Maintaining the artworks to Council’s standards, including cleaning (manual and water pressure), oiling, graffiti removal, vegetation and weed control, and site clean-up

Maintaining, monitoring and reporting on all public art assets, to Council’s standards, including artwork repairs within maintenance instructions relevant for individual assets

Undertaking any duties relevant to public art assets at Council and third party-owned sites which may include minor reinstatement, repairs and inspections

Reporting defects, repairs and maintenance issues to the Public Art and Place Coordinator which may require further investigation

Operating minor plant and equipment as required to maintain Council’s public art assets and surrounding spaces

Assisting the Public Art and Place Coordinator to deliver key performance indicators regarding maintenance

Appropriately operating the Graffiti Utility Van.

This is no ordinary maintenance position. You will have to have a passion for preserving the artistic integrity of public art assets, the ability to learn and develop required programmed activities, and be able to undertake basic repairs of public art assets. You will also have to be very customer focussed as someone working in our community.

Appropriate licences necessary to operate vehicle, plant and equipment used in maintenance is a necessary pre-requisite. This includes holding a valid, full (unrestricted) driver's license in accordance with South Australian requirements.

Candidates that may have prior maintenance experience combined with a trade background such as carpentry / metal fabrication may be strong candidates that can further develop best practice in artwork maintenance although others are encouraged to apply.

This position requires initiative, positivity and self-motivation and is a two day a week part-time job (0.4) and the schedule may be organised over more days in the week with prior agreement by the Hiring Manager.

A brief cover letter outlining why this position appeals to you would be most welcome.
