Borthwick Foods is a Melbourne-based food distribution company supplying high-quality fresh, frozen and dry food products. We proudly serve a wide range of customers including hospitality venues, caterers, aged care facilities and institutional foodservice operators. Known for our reliability, strong product range and exceptional service, we are now looking to expand our footprint across Victoria and interstate.

About the Role

We’re looking for a proactive and commercially minded Business Development Manager to help drive the next stage of our growth. You’ll play a key role in securing new customers, growing existing accounts and identifying market opportunities beyond Melbourne, including regional and interstate expansion.

This is a hands-on, results-driven role ideal for someone with a strong background in sales or business development in the foodservice, FMCG, or distribution sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and win new business in the hospitality, catering, aged care, healthcare and institutional sectors

Develop a strong sales pipeline and manage it through to conversion

Explore and build sales opportunities in regional Victoria and potential interstate markets

Manage and grow key customer accounts, focusing on service and upselling opportunities

Leverage major public events (e.g. Australian Open, Formula One, Spring Racing Carnival, Food & Wine Festival) to increase visibility and drive sales

Plan and execute seasonal campaigns tied to peak periods such as Easter, Mother’s Day, and Christmas

Collaborate with purchasing, marketing, and logistics teams to ensure seamless campaign execution

Track market trends and competitor activity to shape sales strategies

Attend trade shows, industry events and client meetings to promote the brand and build relationships

Provide regular weekly and monthly sales reports, including pipeline progress, forecasts, and performance updates

About You

You will have:

Proven experience in sales or business development, ideally in foodservice, FMCG, or distribution

A strong track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Sound commercial understanding of pricing, margin and positioning

Strong organisational and reporting skills

Proficiency with CRM tools and Microsoft Office

A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel (regional and interstate as needed)

It’s a bonus if you also have:

Experience running event-based promotions and seasonal sales campaigns

Knowledge of cold chain logistics and food safety standards

An existing customer network within the hospitality or institutional food sectors
