About the Role
Lockelec Rolling Stock (LRS), part of Estuary Group, is seeking a Mechanical Design & Project Engineer to join our engineering team in Braeside. This is a hands-on role focused on the design of mechanical and electromechanical assemblies, while also contributing to project coordination and delivery.
We’re looking for someone with strong mechanical design skills and a practical understanding of reliability principles. The ideal candidate will bring structured thinking and solid documentation practices to support quality project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Design mechanical and electromechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks
Apply DFM/DFA principles, material selection, and tolerance analysis for manufacturability
Interpret and apply engineering standards and compliance requirements
Prepare and maintain technical documentation (drawings, BOMs, test procedures, risk registers)
Support project planning and coordinate across engineering and production teams
Liaise with clients and suppliers to ensure successful technical delivery
Participate in design reviews and contribute to process improvement
Support reliability-related tasks such as failure analysis, risk assessments, and FMEA when required
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical design and project engineering
Proficiency in SolidWorks and a practical understanding of manufacturing processes
Knowledge of engineering standards and best practices in documentation
Experience managing technical tasks across design and delivery phases
Familiarity with reliability engineering principles (e.g. FMEA, risk assessments) is an advantage
Strong communication and organisational skills
Experience in the automotive or rail sectors is a bonus
