Remuneration package of up to $179,654 per annum*

*Remuneration is based on salary ($143,896), superannuation ($15,282) and attraction and retention incentive (ARI) payments ($20,476) and leave loading. ARI payments are subject to periodic review and approval. The ARI payment is set to expire on 30 June 2025. Extension of the ARI payment beyond that term is subject to further government decision.

About the role

As the Inspector of Mines – Mining Engineer, you will form part of a dynamic team responsible for administering the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 and leading reform across Western Australia’s mining industry.

The role:

Leads the implementation and engagement of safety and health reform, continuous improvement and change management approaches.

Contributes to the implementation of best practice standards and achievements of the Directorate's Operational Plan.

Conducts sensitive high-level enforcement activity aligned with the Group's programs and policies; including preparing investigation and prosecution reports and providing expert advice for investigations as required.

Undertakes audits, inspections and reports on work places and practices related to mining operations; including technically complex accidents and incidents.

Responds to requests for complex regulatory and technical information; initiates and responds to correspondence; prepares documentation to enforce legislation.

Liaises with employers, employees, unions and industry organisations to develop and maintain effective working relationships and secure commitment to the Group's objectives while enhancing confidence in the role of the regulator.

Contributes to the achievement of individual and collective team goals; including working within multidisciplinary teams and developing the capacity of others through effective mentoring.

Ensures compliance with and assists in developing governance reporting standards and protocols and risk management requirements.

In collaboration with the Mining Discipline Group facilitates the achievement of state wide capability and cultural change.

Undertakes training and professional development.

Essential requirements for this role:

Bachelor of Engineering in mining, or other approved Bachelor degree related to the resources sector.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the mining industry in an Australian context and thorough knowledge of WHS and/or risk management with a mining engineering focus.

Experience and skills in investigations and managing emerging issues.

Proven leadership in developing motivated and cohesive project teams to achieve strategic objectives and cultural change.
