The Role:
We’re looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineering Manager to lead a small, high-performing team of engineers who develop and deliver mission-critical communications systems for military and industrial use. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with both strategic and operational responsibilities across multiple domains.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead a diverse technical team: 10 engineers, including DSP experts, embedded software developers, and wireless researchers
- Oversee day-to-day engineering operations: planning, prioritising tasks, quality control, and timely delivery across several concurrent projects.
- Contribute to strategic planning: align team resources with business goals, scope future projects, and help shape technical proposals.
- Support customer engagement: work with defence clients and international manufacturers to manage project expectations, timelines, and deliverables.
- Drive technical excellence: ensure software development is underpinned by robust engineering processes, tools, and documentation standards.
- Hire, mentor, and retain top talent: help grow the team while maintaining a strong, collaborative engineering culture.
What You’ll Bring:
- 12–15 years of industry experience in software engineering, ideally with embedded systems, wireless communications, or defence applications.
- A solid track record of managing engineering teams and delivering complex technical projects.
- Excellent written and verbal skills are essential – from documentation to cross-team collaboration and client interaction.
- The ability to think beyond the code and contribute to long-term technology and business decisions.
- Degree in Wireless Comms, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or similar.
- You must be an Australian citizen.
