Step into the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Clinical Coder / Medical Records Officer to join our dedicated team at Inverell Hospital.

In this vital role, you will ensure the accuracy and quality of clinical coding, directly supporting hospital funding, research, and performance reporting. Your expertise will help drive data-driven decision-making and enhance patient outcomes across our facility.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver accurate clinical coding and DRG allocation in line with KPIs

Record coding activity and correct errors using quality indicators

Assist with the retrieval, preparation, and scanning of medical records into related systems

Manage Release of Information requests per NSW Health regulations

Facilitate and respond to requests for medical statements and enquiries to relevant agencies

Key Skills

Recognised clinical coding qualification (e.g. HIMAA) or Health Information Management degree and/or significant coding experience within a hospital setting

Proficiency in information systems and software

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are essential

Strong attention to detail with the ability to plan and prioritise workload

A professional, service-oriented approach

Support and Development

Full orientation program provided to ensure smooth transition into the role

Ongoing training via onsite educators

Participate in clinical coding quality initiatives, including targeted coder education sessions

Support from a collaborative team, including the Hospital Services Manager, Nurse Unit Managers, and Health Information Manager
