Energy Queensland
Posted 15 days ago
Your future is Energy Queensland:
Energy Queensland, and our operational brands: Energex, Ergon Energy Network, Ergon Retail and Yurika, are at the frontline of progress. As Australia’s largest government-owned electricity organisation, we serve people and communities across the state and beyond. Here, you’ll help us deliver reliable energy solutions for our two million customers.
Join us as an Asset Accounting Manager and amplify your impact. Based at our Newstead Office in Brisbane, this fixed-term role (commencing mid-July 2025 until February 2026) is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a large, complex asset base – and get your foot in the door at EQL.
Your opportunity:
As an Asset Accounting Manager, you form a key part of EQL’s Financial Control team, overseeing the accuracy and integrity of our Fixed Asset Register. This includes electricity distribution infrastructure valued at over $28 billion – from poles and wires to substations and fleet, and everything in between, such as ICT and property.
A significant element of your role is leading a capable team of six asset accounting specialists. You bring strong technical expertise in asset accounting, combined with natural leadership capability, to guide your team, uphold quality standards, and deliver results. You support your team’s development, foster a high-performing culture, and provide expert direction as we transition from our legacy Ellipse system to a modern, cloud-based SAP environment.
Each day in your role looks a little different. You might be reviewing reconciliations, advising on capitalisation practices, or working closely with our General Manager – Financial Control and fellow accounting managers on key financial deliverables. You regularly collaborate with internal teams such as Works Program Optimisation and Corporate Shared Services on project accounting matters, and work with our ERP Systems team to resolve system issues, identify process gaps, and embed continuous improvement across the asset accounting function.
There isn’t a procedure manual to follow for your role, but you're confident navigating complexity and applying your expertise to solve problems and improve how the team works. You lead with integrity, back your team 100%, and bring a practical, outcomes-focused mindset to leading in a complex financial environment.
Your remuneration starts from $184k per annum + 14.75% super for a 9-day fortnight, and from $208k per annum + 14.75% super for a 10-day fortnight.
What’s on offer?
At Energy Queensland, we believe in supporting every aspect of your career and personal life. Here’s what you can expect:
- Feel safe and supported: A safety-first culture and access to our 24/7 Employee Assistance Program.
- Leave for real life: Access to additional health and wellbeing, culture and diversity leave options.
- Bonus memberships: Access to Corporate Health memberships, Fitness Passport and professional memberships.
What you’ll bring:
We’re looking for a seasoned accounting professional with management experience who can confidently lead a team to maintain the integrity of our Fixed Asset Register.
Specifically, you bring:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- CPA or CA qualifications.
- Solid experience in asset accounting – ideally within a large, asset-intensive organisation. You bring expert knowledge of capitalisation, depreciation, revaluation, and reconciliations, and the confidence to lead these processes.
- Demonstrated leadership experience – you have the proven ability to motivate, coach, and deliver through others.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to adapt, problem-solve, and work comfortably in the unknown.
- A mindset that embraces and advocates for change and continuous improvement.
What matters most? For us, it’s our values: We’re Safe – We Belong – We Grow – We Deliver. If you’re going to be a part of our team, these should matter to you, too.
