Are you an experienced HSEQ professional with a background in chemical manufacturing and a passion for driving safety and quality standards? An exceptional opportunity has arisen with a leading player in the chemical industry for a Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Manager to lead their HSEQ function across a complex site operation.
This is a permanent, full-time role with strong career prospects, offering the opportunity to take full ownership of site safety programs, environmental compliance, and quality systems, while contributing to project development activities.
About the Role
As the HSEQ Manager, you will report directly to the Managing Director and be responsible for managing site-wide health, safety, environmental, and quality programs. You will also lead a small laboratory team and play a vital role in supporting capital project development through regulatory approvals and statutory compliance.
This role requires strategic oversight as well as hands-on involvement in audits, emergency preparedness, compliance training, and external stakeholder liaison. You’ll act as the site’s Responsible Care Coordinator and represent the business on relevant industry committees.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain HSE systems in line with changing regulations and company objectives.
Coordinate emergency response planning and ensure all personnel are prepared through regular exercises.
Oversee training programs for staff and contractors to meet compliance requirements.
Lead regular site audits, risk assessments, and accident prevention initiatives.
Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of safety and environmental performance.
Submit development project consent applications and obtain statutory approvals.
Represent the company on relevant industry bodies and contribute to legislative discussions.
Key Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in WHS, Science or Engineering (preferably including OHS and/or Environmental Science).
Strong knowledge of Australian WHS, environmental, and planning legislation.
Experience working in the chemical industry – Major Hazard Facility experience highly regarded.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Auditing experience and qualifications in HSE and/or Quality Systems.
Demonstrated experience in risk assessments, HAZOPs, LOPA, and process hazard reviews.
Exceptional communication and advisory skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities independently.
