ONI is seeking experienced, collaborative, and insightful APS6 Advisers to join the Intelligence Mission Management team within the Pacific Intelligence Partnerships branch.
This EOI opportunity is only available to current Commonwealth employees with a current TSPV/TSPA security clearance.
The Team
ONI’s Mission Management Division (MMD) coordinates, integrates and evaluates the National Intelligence Community’s (NIC) activities across the Indo-Pacific, including the Pacific, Southeast Asia and East Asia regions. The Pacific Intelligence Partnerships Branch sits within MMD.
The Role
ONI’s Advisers, Intelligence Mission Management, enable the coordination, integration and evaluation of the NIC’s efforts across the Indo-Pacific, guided by Government priorities. Advisers work closely and collaboratively with teams across ONI and with NIC agencies, policy customers, and international partners to deliver intelligence insights to stakeholders.
The typical duties of the Adviser, Pacific Intelligence Partnerships, Mission Management Division include:
- Supporting development of intelligence strategies and plans to guide the NIC with respect to the relevant intelligence mission and contributing to the evaluation of the NIC’s efforts against the mission.
- Supporting governance bodies to lead, coordinate and integrate the NIC to ensure alignment of the intelligence community with policy priorities.
- Identifying capability gaps and resource shortfalls impacting the intelligence mission and develop approaches to address these gaps via ONI and broader Government processes.
Key Attributes
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate:
- An understanding of the national security landscape and an appreciation of how the broader strategic environment can impact NIC outcomes and outputs, and Government decision-making.
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills, including ability to anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs in line with ONI’s objectives.
- Sound judgement and cultural sensitivity when communicating with foreign officials.
- The ability to maintain collaborative relationships across ONI, the NIC and with policy agencies.
- Well-developed organisational and coordination skills, advanced problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities.
- The ability to support implementation of new initiatives and deliver outcomes in an evolving environment.
Skills and Qualifications
We recruit staff with a wide range of backgrounds, skill levels, disciplines and working styles. Your experience and knowledge may have been developed while working for the Australian government in diplomatic, policy or intelligence roles.
You will have broad subject matter expertise, ability to exercise astute decision making and an aptitude to help coordinate and collaborate with other NIC agencies.
Desirable, but not essential:
- Sound awareness of the South Pacific strategic environment.
