Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering primary and clinical health care services to the Aboriginal people in Katherine and surrounding communities. Wurli prides itself on delivering a range of health and wellbeing services to the community in a style and manner that makes clients feel welcome and comfortable. Services include acute and general care, chronic disease, Women’s & Children health, men’s health, alcohol and other drugs, social and emotional wellbeing and client support services.

The Senior Medical Officer is responsible for the provision of expert, best practice, contemporary medical advice and clinical leadership of the organisation. This requires the provision of strategic clinical and clinical governance leadership to the organisation and the provision of senior advisory services to the Wurli Board of Directors, CEO and other PHC leaders within the organisation.

Key Features of the Role:

Based in Katherine, Northern Territory

Works alongside a dedicated primary healthcare and wellbeing teams. In so doing, demonstrates respect for other allied health professional roles.

Supervision of training health professionals including but not limited to GP Registrars and Medical Students.

An ordinary working week of 37.5 hours; Monday to Friday.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

Fully Registered as a Medical Practitioner with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) –
General and Specialist (General Practice)

Minimum of ten (10) years broad clinical experience

Demonstrated experience in senior medical advisory role

Demonstrated knowledge of Australian health care standards and legislative frameworks

Solid understanding of clinical governance and service performance evaluation

Current AHPRA Registration

Current Criminal History Check (no less than 3 months from issue date)

Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)

Current Northern Territory Driver’s License

Previous experience in working in a cross-cultural service environment, particularly in Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care

Ideally, have Accreditation as a GP Registrar Supervisor
