About Ampilatwatja Health Centre Aboriginal Corporation (AHC)

AHC is a community-controlled health service committed to improving health outcomes in one of Australia’s most remote Aboriginal communities. Serving approximately 650 community members and delivering over 14,000 client contacts annually, AHC provides critical services through:

Clinical Health teams

Community Health programmes

Corporate Services team

Based at Ampilatwatja, approximately 350 kilometres northeast of Alice Springs, AHC also supports two nearby outstations. With a dedicated team of around 13 staff and strong governance led by the Board of Directors, we deliver holistic and culturally respectful healthcare services that have a lasting impact.

About the Opportunity

Are you a visionary leader ready to deliver meaningful change in Aboriginal community health?

As Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will report directly to the Board of Directors and lead a diverse, multidisciplinary team. Your mission will be to:

Provide strategic leadership and governance, working closely with the Board to ensure effective oversight and alignment with the organisation’s vision

Deliver financial and operational excellence

Drive measurable improvements in health Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and long-term health outcomes

Champion culturally sensitive healthcare services

Strengthen community engagement and build sustainable partnerships

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and support the Clinic Manager, overseeing clinical services including General Practitioners, Remote Area Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Chronic Disease and Child & Maternal Health Nurses.

Guide the Health Programmes Manager, who leads programmes addressing Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Men’s and Women’s Health, Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS), Social and Emotional Wellbeing, and Nutrition

Oversee the Corporate Services team responsible for Finance, Administration, Human Resources, and Facilities Management

Ensure strong financial management, governance, and compliance with funding and reporting obligations

Build and maintain meaningful relationships with community stakeholders and government agencies

Lead workforce development, including recruitment, training, and performance management

About You

You are a resilient and compassionate leader with a passion for community health and improving outcomes in remote Aboriginal communities. You thrive in complex environments and lead with confidence, cultural sensitivity, and a strong sense of purpose.

You are adaptable and able to navigate the challenges of working in a remote location. You bring high levels of energy and enthusiasm to your work and foster a positive organisational culture. Your strong analytical and problem-solving skills enable you to deliver strategic outcomes and operational improvements.

Essential Criteria:

Proven leadership experience in remote Aboriginal communities or similar settings

Strong governance, financial management, and strategic planning capabilities

Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement and building sustainable partnerships

Excellent leadership skills with the ability to develop and inspire multidisciplinary teams

High-level communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills

Commitment to improving health equity and outcomes

Tertiary qualifications in business, health, or a related field are well regarded

Desirable Criteria:

Experience working within Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services

Knowledge of compliance standards including AGPAL accreditation and ORIC governance

Experience navigating remote environments; four-wheel drive experience is beneficial

Pre-Employment Requirements

Current unrestricted Australian driving licence

Ability to obtain a Working with Children NT Ochre Card

National Police History Check
