At The Austin Vet Specialists, our dedication to providing exceptional care for our patients drives our continued growth. To ensure our team continues to deliver the highest standard of care, we are seeking a passionate and skilled Practice Manager to lead our specialty clinical team.
About the Role:
As our Specialty Practice Manager, you will be responsible for a growing specialty team of over 45 individuals, including veterinarians, specialist service coordinators, nurses and kennel hands. You will collaborate with the Urgent Care Manager who oversees another 40 staff members, as well as the rest of the management team, to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic.
This position would suit an experienced Practice Manager who wants to develop their career and take it to the next level. Solid experience in a healthcare setting, nursing teams, performance management and the application of best practice will hold you in good stead. This role will be full-time (5 days) and on-site. Please note that prior experience in a veterinary setting is not strictly essential. It will be beneficial, but we encourage applications from anybody who resonates with this role and has leadership experience.
Responsibilities include:
The Practice Manager will be responsible for the smooth daily operations of a veterinary centre (together with the Urgent Care Manager). This covers a lot of territory. Several examples of tasks include:
Foster a dynamic and high-performing team environment by actively engaging in mentoring and coaching.
Build strong accountability and trust among team members.
Actively contribute to clinical scheduling, staffing distribution and pro-active problem solving to ensure operational efficiency and seamless workflows.
Collaborate with the Urgent Care Manager and HR Manager on workforce planning initiatives, including recruiting, scheduling, and managing team members' rostering and timesheets.
Ensure outstanding customer service, cultivate and enhance relationships with referring veterinarians, and improve overall client satisfaction. This includes addressing client concerns promptly and proactively resolving issues as they arise.
Develop and uphold high standards for veterinary and nursing care that are aligned with our values.
Partner with the Urgent Care Manager to collaboratively develop and implement policies and processes that prioritise the needs of the clinic, patients and clients.
Ensure a seamless transfer of cases between departments by maintaining accurate records and up-to-date information. This includes promoting transparency in communication and collaboration, so that all team members have access to the correct information at all times.

About You
Essential
A track record of effective leadership combined with a passion for empowering your team to achieve their best.
Strong organisational skills (such as scheduling, rostering, and operations management).
Effective problem-solving skills (such as client complaints and operational challenges).
Passion for fostering a positive workplace culture and the delivery of service excellence.
Adaptability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
A passion for animal care and team well-being.
Flexibility in working hours to meet team and business needs.
Demonstrates effective communication and strong interpersonal skills.
Helpful but not essential
Clinical experience, such as a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or postgraduate business qualifications, will be highly regarded.
Understanding of budgeting, financial performance, and KPIs.
